Summer Love - The July Wine Mailing

An Opening

Some of you may know that last weekend saw the opening of our first eat-and-drink-in bakery site, theBakery Room in the busy Maltby Street Market.  It is just around the other side from our Druid Street bakery arch, which is still open as normal for your bread, doughnuts and of course those bag-in-boxes to take away, but the Bakery Room has a greater selection of wines, for home or to have a glass to accompany your breakfast and lunch!

Trevor will be doing various tastings over the coming months, so watch this space...

A Glass

We are asked regularly whether we sell our wine glasses.  The answer, for those who would like to know, is that WE DO.

Some background and a funny story...  Trevor challenged Schott Reidal to come up with a glass that echoed our philosophy.  The response was silence - meanwhile you can buy a specialized chardonnay glass from them!  Luckily we love the glasses we have, and if you do too...

They can be bought by the dozen for £25 (£2.10 a glass), plus delivery - or of course you can collect.  Just ask!

Summer Wines

Raimond's two rosés Le Corail 2011 and Le Grêlé 2012 are tasting very well.  They are real wines and not the confections that abound when the sun comes out!  For the French speakers among you here's Raimond himself in characteristically fine flow, telling the story of Le Grêlé.

And the whites, our St John Bourgogne Blanc is a real treat and for the 'naturalists' out there, theDomaine Deurre Cotes du Rhone Blanc 2010 continues its idiosyncratic popularity...  not much left now, so grab some while you can

A Fête

Our Fête du Vin was great fun, we were joined by a merry bunch of our growers and vignerons, friends both local and London, Monsieur le Marie and his wife and many others.  Dare we say it, the folk of the South West of France were a little impressed by our cooking...!  Thank you to all who came.  More news on the new Boulevard Napoleon vintages soon - there is a limited amount of single varietal Cinsault 2012 for example, it was a particular year for this vineyard so we decided on a small bottling.

We don't often talk beer...

...but we are reviewing our selection, both draft and bottled, at the restaurants now.  Our lovely bar team headed over to Tottenham to the Redemption Brewery and we have a visit to the Kernalupcoming.  A fruitful day spent smelling hops, malts and just a little tasting... we'll keep you posted.

Some Vintage Changes

St John Bourgogne Rouge 2012, first shipment on its way!

Grange aux belles, Chausee Rouge 2013 is in, and delightful chilled

St John Blanc is now 2013, Trevor says it's drinking happily

- St John Claret, the 2008 vintage has served us well but we're on the final cases so please ask young Max if you would like some before we move on to the 2011 vintage

And finally, some more snaps from that fête...
