September Happenings

20 Aug 2015

These Days are Just Packed!

We've got a crazy September coming up... and you can join us, with some serious fun, some serious wines, some serious (or not so serious!) lessons and a seriously good cause.

You're welcome to come to all, or some, or just usher in the beginning of Autumn with a plate of Devilled Kidneys and a glass at  St John Maltby! Whatever you do, we're looking forward to seeing you.

Following the success of our first Wine Tasting Dinner back in June, we have met demand and arranged not one, but two more over the month of September! Each has a distinctive theme tailored to the different location, each has some very special finds.

Trevor will be waxing lyrical, Fergus will be feeding you, both will be holding court on both nights in their own inimitable style.  Join them!

St. John Maltby, 10th Sept.

St John Maltby is small, intimate and allows us to really showcase some of our more unusual finds.  Here we will present a journey down the Loire valley, an often overlooked but wonderfully varied offering, with lower land prices making it a hotbed for younger winemakers to explore and grow, often straying from the straight and narrow... some 'natural', some not...!

£95 per person, everything included.

Bread & Wine, 21st Sept.

At Bread & Wine, Trevor's thoughts are turning to the harvest and to the Autumn ahead, giving an insight into his recommendations for the season and beyond.  There will even be a rosé which gets better with age and works with the turning weather, and magnums of Cabernet Franc that are perfectly in tune with the convivial, feasting style.

£95 per person, everything included.

OMNIVORE with Fergus - and Bread & Wine

OMNIVORE say: "From the wisdom of St John has emerged a generation of young leaders". It is on these brilliant chefs and others that Omnivore focus their World Tour, which comes to London for the first time from Paris, via Istanbul, Sydney and Montreal. Over three days, from the 11th to 13th September, Omnivore are hosting dinners, masterclasses and parties celebrating "100% Young Cuisine", all held in and around the Truman Brewery - just around the corner from Bread & Wine!

On September 12th, 11.25-12.00, FERGUS will be conducting a Masterclass focusing on the THE IMPORTANCE OF FAT. Starting with bone marrow, working through a pig's head, to finish with Crispy Pig's Skin & Dandelion.

Book your ticket for the Masterclass here!

Then stick around - there's a PARTY that night! TEN CHEFS create TEN BITES for your delectation and celebration. Bread & Wine are representing - on their home turf - producing Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad canapés.  They are in good company, with Stevie Parle of Craft and Jocelyn Herland of Alain Ducasse among other friends all working hard to fuel your OMNIVOROUS partying.

Book your ticket for the PARTY here!

St. JOHN Maltby & St. JOHN Bakery are proud members of the wonderful Bermondsey community, and we are thrilled to be taking part in the 2015 Bermondsey Street Festival. It is part village fête complete with dog show, part party with live music and DJs, part foody heaven with stands from local restaurants, breweries and more.

From us, there will be doughnuts. There will be those famous OX HEART BUNS from FERGUS. There will be WINE from TREVOR. What more do you need to keep you going through the afternoon of fun?

We hope to see you there - with or without your canine companion!

A Save the Date... Chicago Taste Talks, 2nd - 4th Oct.

Just a heads up...our friends April Bloomfield of NYC and Paul Kahan of Chicago come together in October to curate the second annual Taste Talks Food & Drink Festival Chicago 2015. And we're joining in!

Fergus will be talking about Whole Animal Butchery... Trevor will be talking about Lesser Known Wines... and we will be collaborating with Paul Kahan for the All Star BBQ!

We'll tell you more nearer the time!

Finally, something rather special.

"Every night in America, another kid goes to bed hungry. And every day, another kid falls behind – and never catches up.These kids deserve a chance in life".

Giving these kids a chance is  the mission statement of No Kid Hungry / Share our Strength. Through their hard work, and their good work, they have built up a network of partners and supporters across the hospitality industry (among others), in both the US and the UK, who use their skills and expertise to further this brilliant cause.

One of their biggest supporters is the NYC restaurateur non plus ultra DANNY MEYER, with whom St. JOHN is partnering for this year's 22nd Annual Harvest Dinner, at his epic North End Grill.

Fergus and our Head Chef Jonathan are excited to be cooking for Danny with Head Chef Eric's awesome team, Trevor is excited about bringing our Boulevard Napoleon wines to NYC, and we are all excited about raising money for such a necessary, worthy organisation.
